YORK -- A York man is in jail after police say he took $2,560 worth of jewelry, Victoria's Secret items and other belongings from a Rock Hill home.
Salvador Romero Tomas, 30, of 401 Canary Lane in York was charged Tuesday with first-degree burglary and grand larceny in connection with an incident that happened between July 3 and July 4, according to a Rock Hill Police Department report.
Tomas turned himself into authorities Tuesday morning, and a judge denied his bond.
The charges against Tomas stem from a burglary that happened at 1307 Bose Ave. Stolen from the apartment were five pieces of jewelry valued at $1,500, as well as three items from Victoria's Secret, valued at $150, according to the report.
Kitt White, 41, said she had two baskets full of Victoria Secret perfume, lotion, body spray and scented soap made as a Valentine's Day and Mother's Day treat for herself. Her living room set and a centerpiece rug also were stolen, she said.
"I was heartbroken," White said. "I thought I had just walked into the wrong apartment."
Also taken were a Magnavox television, a DVD player, 50 DVDs and a ceramic lion. The items were valued of $910, the report states.
Kitt said her property was sold, and she doesn't think she'll get it back.
"I am just hurt, because all I want is my stuff back," White said. "It means a lot to me. It was a showcase."
White told police that she had previously nailed her kitchen windows shut. After the burglary, she discovered that the nails were lying inside the kitchen, consistent with someone removing the nails from the inside, according to the report. Police don't know who removed the nails, said Lt. Jerry Waldrop.
Tomas on Tuesday was transferred to York County Detention Center, where he remained in custody Wednesday.
