We launched a makeover of heraldonline.com this morning that allows you to better connect with us and with your community.
The changes are intended to increase your access to the vast information available on heraldonline.com. Navigation tabs at the top of the home page give you instant connections to the local, national, entertainment and sports news that interests you. You also can easily locate obituaries, photo galleries, The Herald's archives and local advertising.
Our new design prominently displays the latest breaking news, photo galleries, videos and audio recordings.
It's also easier for you to comment on the latest news. At the end of each story, you'll find a comment box that allows you to quickly type in your thoughts about the issue covered and our coverage of it. We also invite you to use the box to suggest story ideas.
With the new design, you can easily find popular blogs by columnist Andrew Dys and Carolina Panthers beat writer Darin Gantt. You also can find community message boards on a range of topics, providing another forum for you to share your views with fellow readers and The Herald.
Another new feature is a community calendar that invites readers to directly post information about upcoming events to the web site. Other readers will then have easy access to that information. (Please note that if you want an event listed in The Herald's community news column, you should still e-mail the information to email@example.com.)
It's been nearly two years since we've redesigned heraldonline.com. As we added new features, the old design became difficult to navigate, making it hard to find some of our most useful content.
Our new design fixes that problem while adding several new features. A Frequently Asked Questions list about the redesign also is available on the site.
We've worked hard on the design for several months. But I want to hear what you think. I invite you to visit heraldonline.com and then share your thoughts with me. I can be reached at posmundson@ heraldonline.com.
