No charges are expected from a collision Friday afternoon that left a Rock Hill man and woman dead after their car was hit by a tractor-trailer along Celanese Road, officials said.
Roommates Jon Kirsh, 23, and Michelle Eddington, 24, died in the collision, said York County Coroner Sabrina Gast. Both were wearing seat belts, Gast said.
The crash happened around 2 p.m. at the intersection of Celanese and Twin Lakes roads when Eddington's 2006 four-door Nissan ran a red light and was hit by a tractor-trailer driven by a 45-year-old Fort Mill man, said S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Jeff Gaskin.
The car was struck on the driver's side, he said.
Kirsh was taken to Piedmont Medical Center, where he died, Gast said. Eddington, who was driving the car, died at the scene.
The truck driver was not injured, authorities said.
No other details were available late Friday, but Gaskin said no charges are expected.
More than 70 people have died during collisions on state roads so far this year, according to the Office of Highway Safety.
