The gardens at the Woman’s Club of Rock Hill on Aiken Avenue have been placed on the South Carolina List of Historic Gardens.
Included in the designation are the original plants, the traditional landscaping installed during the club’s Designer Show House in 2002 as well as the Mauldin Gardens restored by the club in 2009 and 2010.
The restoration project included reconstruction of the garden centerpiece, an 18-column pergola and restoration of the lily pond and reflecting pool. Reclaimed materials from the original structures were used in the restorations.
South Carolina and Georgia are the only states that identify, document and list historic gardens.
For information about the gardens at the Woman’s Club, call the clubhouse at 803-328-8888 and leave a message.
