A former Chester schools administrator died Thursday night after a stroke, a district official said.
Gaither Bumgardner, 65, worked in Chester County schools for more than 30 years, according to The Herald’s archives. He worked as a band director, principal, executive director of student services and associate superintendent of operations.
He was laid off from the district in 2009 during Chester School District’s budget crisis.
Bumgardner was currently the choir director, organist and pianist at Allison Creek Presbyterian Church in York and band director at Forestview High School in Gastonia. He was a member of Great Falls Presbyterian Church, where he formerly served as choir director, organist and pianist, and elder.
