While there are elements of water polo, basketball, and hockey, the object is simple – score!

Sounds simple, but it’s not. Just ask the teams in the U.S. National Kayak Polo Championships at the Tega Cay Beach Club.

Saturday was the first of the three-day championships that drew about 50 competitors from across the country to Tega Cay.

Among those attending were the U.S. Women’s Team, which is preparing for the World Championship in France this September, as well as the U.S. Men’s team.

Competition resumed today at 8:30 a.m. with the semifinal round and the championships start 8:30 a.m. Monday.

There is no admission charge but donations to help the U.S. Women’s Team travel to France are being accepted.

Parking for the event is in the gravel lot to the left of the Beach Club. Parking in Tega Cay is by permit only and is limited.
