A 65-year-old man was hit by a car early Saturday morning on East Liberty Street in York, near Devinney Road.
The man was on top of the car that hit him when York police responded to the scene just after 4:30 a.m., York Police Department Chief Andy Robinson said.
Robinson said the man was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Main in Charlotte. He was in critical condition, but stable and awaiting surgery, Robinson said later Saturday morning.
Officers say the victim and the driver may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Robinson said.
The investigation continues.
No further information was provided by police.
