York Mayor Eddie Lee has been chosen for a statewide historic preservation award for his efforts to marshal public support to save the historic York County Courthouse. The award is given by the Palmetto Trust for Historic Preservation, the S.C. Department of Archives and History and the governor’s office.
Clover Area Assistance Center leaders voted to terminate relations with Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. Following issues about picking up food at the Charlotte center, CAAC filed for a grievance hearing. Second Harvest put CAAC on a one-year probation. Rather than meet the terms, CAAC’s board voted to sever ties.
Four Clover High School students have received full military scholarships or appointments to military academies. Other school news includes honors for the York Comprehensive band, Clover High drumline and more.
At least two local school districts will use the regularly-scheduled Memorial Day holiday as a make-up day for students and teachers next month. The make-up day is needed to replace a school day missed in February for inclement winter weather.
Riding the momentum of a 10-0 win over rival York the previous Friday, the Clover High School softball team stepped out of the region Monday night, hosting Union as a tune-up for Thursday’s playoff opener at home.
Though they missed a state playoff berth, the Clover High School baseball team ended the season on a high note, defeating rival York 3-1 in eight innings. Clover senior hurler Barrett Courtwright went the distance in a gritty effort.
