Western York County walks to defeat cancer

Six-year-old Luke Moore, a leukemia survivor and kindergarten student at Clover’s Kinard Elementary School, led Saturday’s survivors lap in the Western York County Relay for Life. Dozens of cancer survivors of all ages participated in the annual American Cancer Society benefit at York Middle School. The Western York County group aims to raise $120,000.

Clover moms aim to spread awareness of Lyme

About 100 area residents participated in a 5K run and walk Saturday to raise awareness of Lyme disease. Clover residents Kim Aldridge and Amith Rine formed Ticked about Lyme after both their 14-year-old children were diagnosed with Lyme disease. Through their experience, they learned that diagnosis and treatment is controversial and that many families face significant challenges in treatment.

York schools to change food service companies

Students in York schools may see some changes in the cafeteria next fall. The school board awarded its food service contract to a new company, Chartwell’s, which already serves Clover schools. School leaders said food presentation, marketing and cost were factors in the decision to change food service providers.
