Ex-York police officer accused of child abuse wants more lenient bond, contact with baby’s mom

Robert Jeffrey Taylor Jr., a police officer for 18 years, is charged with child abuse inflicting great bodily injury and child neglect concerning injuries to his infant son that prosecutors say are so severe that the child likely will never recover. The child’s mother, Audrey Schurig, also a police officer, is charged with neglect. Both are out on bond pending trial, but Taylor claims to want contact with Schurig that was barred by a judge.

Clover students see math come alive on Imagineering day

Fifth-grade students at Bethel Elementary School in Clover SC grabbed math with both hands during an Imagineering Math day Friday that featured more than a dozen hands-on math exhibits and applications. Teacher Patricia Smith and Lee Pearson teamed up to show students math problems that come alive.

York schools to launch Early College program next fall

Leaders in the York school district expect to enroll about 45 students in a new York Comprehensive High School program that would allow them to earn up to 31 hours of college transfer credit. The four-year Early College program is a partnership between York schools and York Technical College.
