Mark Hendry, principal of York’s Cotton Belt Elementary School, has been named principal of Harold J. Johnson Elementary for 2011-12.
Harold C. Johnson, formerly a middle school, is currently closed for renovations; it will reopen in the fall of 2011 as York’s fifth elementary school.
As principal at Cotton Belt since 2006, Hendry has implemented some innovative initiatives for students, parents and staff, according to a statement from the York school district.
This fall at Cotton Belt, an NFL Day was held to promote health and wellness. Another annual event is the Wake-up and Read Day for parents to visit, have breakfast and spend time reading with their child. Hispanic night is another fun time at Cotton Belt where students, parents and faculty learn about a different culture and enjoy food samples.
Never miss a local story.
Hendry attended the University of South Florida, where he received a B.S. degree in physical education. At Winthrop University, he earned a master’s of education in educational leadership.
