The American Cancer Society will host a kickoff celebration for the 2011 Relay For Life of Western York County at 7 p.m. Jan. 10 at the York Electric Co-op.
In 2010 the Relay For Life of Western York County reached its fundraising goal of $115,000.
The 2011 Relay For Life of Western York County will be at 1 p.m. April 30 at the York Middle School football field.
In honor of those who battle cancer 24 hours a day, team members take turns walking the track throughout the day and night. For those not walking, there is constant action, including entertainment, food and games, touching ceremonies and stories of inspiration.
Never miss a local story.
Participants celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer through a survivor’s lap and survivor recognition. The strength of survivors inspires others to continue to fight. They also remember loved ones lost to the disease, and honor those who have survived and are now battling the disease with a luminaria ceremony.
People who have walked alongside those battling cancer can grieve and find healing. Participants fight back against cancer because they want to put an end to the disease. Relay helps individuals make a commitment to save lives by taking up the fight.
