Two Navy JROTC cadets at York Comprehensive High School have been chosen to attend specialized math and science training programs offered through the U.S. Navy this summer.
Cadet Justin Feemster has been accepted to attend the Navy’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) seminar at the University of San Diego July 17 to 23. Cadet Ishmeal Burris will attend a similar STEM seminar June 19 to 25 at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona, Fla.
Only 13 cadets are selected for each seminar from 67 Navy JROTC units in North and South Carolina. All expenses are paid by the Navy, including air fare, lodging in the dormitories and meals in the dining facilities. Evening activities are planned each night.
The purpose of the seminars is to stimulate interest in college, especially in the math, science, engineering and technology fields, which is what the Navy requires for officer selection.
