Candidate filing for a seat on Sharon Town Council is now open, York County elections officials said.
Eligible candidates must collect signatures of 5 percent of the qualified voters in the town of Sharon, which amounts to 14, elections officials said, adding that candidates are urged to collect more than they need to cover any disqualified signatures.
The deadline to submit petitions to York County Registration and Elections office in York is noon Sept. 7.
Petition candidates must also file a Statement of Economic Interest form online with the S.C. Ethics Commission and in paper form at the York County Registration and Elections Office along with a Statement of Intention of Candidacy and the candidate’s petition.
Never miss a local story.
The seat will become vacant in January when Joe Cox begins his term on the York County Council in January. Cox, who resigned from the town council effective after this year, won the Republican Party primary and faces no opposition in November.
Elections for the seat will coincide with the general election on Nov. 6.
