York teen on winning track at Lowe's
York resident Brett Pepicelli was among the feature winners during round two of the 15th annual Quaker Steak & Lube Summer Shootout Series last week at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
Run on the track's frontstretch quarter-mile oval, the summer shootout is one of the nation's largest grassroots racing series, attracting more than 200 cars during each of the 10 weeks.
Pepicelli scored his first career Quaker Steak & Lube Summer Shootout victory in the 20-lap feature for the Cherry Coke Bandolero Outlaws. Pepicelli started third in the 13-car field and took the lead on a lap-eight restart.
The 16-year-old racer kept his cool and managed to stave off challenges for the inside lane from Bailey Daniels during the final laps to top the division for drivers ages 16 and over.
The 15th annual Summer Shootout Series continues each Tuesday night through Aug. 12. Admission is $7 for adults with children 6-12 admitted for $3 and kids under 6 free. Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with feature racing at 7:30.
