The Clover Dixie Minors All-Stars concluded a successful season, losing 9-1 to host Lancaster in the final day showdown of the district tournament last week.
Noah Lindsay opened the game with a home run for Clover's lone run. The all-star contingent hung tough, trailing 2-1 until the fifth-inning.
"We ran out gas in the final game," reasoned head coach Butch Lindsay.
Clover operated on high octane the previous week, breezing through the subdistrict tournament in York.
Never miss a local story.
The intense level of play continued, with decisive wins over Lockhart (16-3 and 20-0) to reach the final pairing in Lancaster.
Timmy Marcelli, Kevin Wade, Hunter Hamrick, Justin Gigg, Chey Carter and Lindsay were key players for Clover in the district tournament.
"I am proud of our team," coach Lindsay said. "We had a lot of veteran players that gelled together.
"They are a close group."
Lindsay said he was appreciative of the support from parents, fans and the Clover Recreation Department.
