A York man sits in jail without bond after deputies say he sexually assaulted an 8-year-old girl and later apologized to her grandmother when he was confronted, police say.
On Jan. 7, deputies spoke with a woman, 46, who claimed that her granddaughter had been fondled by a man who watches her after school until her grandmother returns home from work, according to a York County Sheriff’s report. The man, identified as Norman Pratt, was a family friend that the grandmother told deputies she’s known for about four years.
The girl told her grandmother that Pratt, 52, fondled her in his bedroom, the report states. When she walked out of the room to find another adult in the house, Pratt told the girl to remove her clothing, the report states. The girl told her grandmother what happened, and the grandmother demanded that Pratt stay away from her granddaughter.
Pratt, deputies reported, apologized to the grandmother. After investigating, deputies this week charged him with third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor. He is held at the York County Detention Center without bond.
