A York man was flown to a Charlotte hospital early Wednesday after he told police one of several people “picking on him” shot him before he ran through a neighborhood park and then collapsed, police say.
Police were sent to a park on Galilean Road, in York’s Valley neighborhood, just after midnight after receiving calls about a gunshot victim, according to a York police report. When they arrived, they found Quantavis Deon Neely, 24, lying face down.
Neely was able to tell police that he was walking from Galilean Road when several people in a black car approached him, the report states. The strangers began “picking on him,” he told authorities, before one of the people said, “I got you now.”
The person then shot him, the report states.
Neely told police he ran through the park and collapsed, the report states. He told police he did not know any of the people in the car. He was flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Police spoke with several neighbors who reported that they heard a gunshot and then at least 10 minutes later, heard a second shot go off.
