Eagle Closet has clearance sale in March
CLOVER The Clover school district Eagle Closet will have a clearance sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays and Fridays through March 28.
The Eagle Closet is on Knox Street, next to the Blue Eagle Academy.
All clothing is 10 cents. Books, DVDs, CDs, VHS and cassette tapes are 5 cents each, and coats, handbags, adult shoes, bookbags and toys are 25 cents each. Everything else in the store is half off the sticker price.
York student competes in regional spelling bee
YORK Anthonella Mendoza, the winner of the 2014 York school district spelling bee, competed in the Charlotte Observer Spelling Bee last week and outspelled all but nine of 26 contestants from 48 counties in North and South Carolina.
Anthonella went through 14 rounds in the regional bee, including two rounds of vocabulary. If it had not been for the word “bludgeon,” she would have been among four students left standing in the final round.
Anthonella is a fifth-grade student at York Intermediate School.
Clover registration to begin in March
CLOVER Clover School District pre-kindergarten and kindergarten registration is scheduled for this week. Parents should register their children at their current elementary school assignment based on the 2013-14 attendance lines.
• Bethany Elementary: 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday-Friday.
• Crowders Creek Elementary: 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday and 3-6 p.m. Thursday.
• Griggs Road Elementary: 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday-Friday.
• Kinard Elementary: 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday-Friday.
• Larne Elementary: 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday-Friday.
To be eligible for pre-K, children must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2014. To be eligible for kindergarten, children must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2014.
Parents should bring the child’s legal birth certificate copy with the state seal, two proofs of residency with the name and address of the parent registering the child, and up-to-date immunization records when registering.
Parents not sure where to register their child can use the district’s address locator at clover.k12.sc.us to identify their correct school assignment.

CLOVER Clover native Lelia Jackson will award the second annual LANDIS Scholarship to a deserving Clover High School senior.
Jackson, a 1983 graduate of CHS, named the scholarship after her father, Landis Jackson, who worked in the Clover school district for many years.
Students applying for the Lifting And Navigating Determined Inspired Students Scholarship must demonstrate volunteer community service, exhibit leadership skills, have a financial need, and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Students should see the Clover High School guidance department for additional details. Applications are due to the CHS guidance department by April 9.
