Saturday’s U8 Coed Soccer Jamboree, an inter-organizational event with a round-robin format, drew 23 teams to Clover’s New Centre Park.
The event included seven teams from the Clover Parks and Recreation Department, eight from the Lake Wylie Athletic Association and eight from the Steele Creek Athletic Association.
Event coordinator Donald Johnson with Clover Parks and Rec said the jamboree included 19 friendly matches on three New Centre fields.
Johnson said all Clover and Lake Wylie teams played two matches each, with Steele Creek teams each playing one match.
“Teams were paired as evenly as possible, using each league’s standings at the conclusion of May 10 matches,” said Johnson.
The organizations’ records at the event were Clover, 3-9-2; Lake Wylie, 11-4-1; and Steele Creek, 2-3-3.
There were 11 Clover-versus-Lake Wylie matchups, three Steele Creek-Clover pairings and five Lake Wylie-Steele Creek competitions.
Johnson said the event began in 2012, when Clover and Steele Creek agreed to alternate hosting an inter-organizational jamboree for U8 coed teams.
The Steele Creek organization hosted the event during the fall 2012 season, and Clover hosted the jamboree during the spring 2013 season.
“The event evolved and had different organizations that included Fort Mill Parks and Recreation and currently LWAA,” Johnson said.
“The growth and consistency exhibited to continue the cooperative venture, adding value to our program, has been a great example of endeavors the Clover Parks and Rec Department makes to achieve its mission,” Johnson said.
“I look forward to being a part of this event for years to come.”
