York Teacher Forum gives $500 scholarship
The $500 scholarship was awarded to Burns by Diane Brown, the 2012 district teacher of the year; York school board member Chris Stephenson; and Laura Milem, the 2013 district teacher of the year.
Burns is a senior at York Comprehensive High School who took the Teacher Cadet class under the leadership of Debbie Love.
Four years ago, the then York school district teacher of the year Heather Montgomery asked the York Teacher Forum to sponsor a scholarship for a YCHS Teacher Cadet who wanted to major in education.
Montgomery believed the Teacher Forum needed to show support for one of its local students who planned to be a teacher.
Because of a successful silent auction at the October instructional fair at the high school last fall, the forum was able to donate the scholarship.
