Comporium of Rock Hill has been named the top independent cable operator by “Cablefax: The Magazine.”
The magazine is supported by the National Cable Television Cooperative and the American Cable Association.
Comporium was selected from 950 member cable television providers.
Cablefax said Comporium is, “unabashedly rooted in traditional values, yet exceedingly progressive.” The magazine article highlighted that Comporium technology is cutting edge, citing the availability of TV Everywhere and Video on Demand, home security and automation products, and its Zipstream gigabit Internet service.
Cablefax also cited Comporium’s regional Emmy-winning channel CN2.
Comporium’s Bill Beaty, executive vice president of cable TV, and John Barnes, executive vice president of marketing and business solutions, accepted the award.
Comporium is the nation’s 27th largest cable operator with interests in the smart home industry, connected car technology, as well as data management and storage.
Business News• Express Truck Tax, a division of SPAN Enterprises of Rock Hill, and the Owner Operator Independent Driver Association have formed a partnership. The agreement gives drivers access to Express Truck’s tax filing programs. The programs are in English, Spanish and Russian. Truckers can e-file the necessary federal tax forms. There is also a tablet app truckers can access.
• Kendra Collins has been promoted to community relations manager at Family Trust Federal Credit Union.
Collins is responsible for community and credit union events, social media, and corporate donations. Previously the community relations coordinator, she also will coordinate the Youth Advisory Board and school relations, which includes financial presentations and Family Trust’s teacher grant program.
Collins has a degree in business administration/marketing from Winthrop University, and master of business administration from Pfeiffer University. She is chair of Leadership of York County conducted through the York County Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Beaty has been associated with Comporium’s cable TV business since he joined the company in 1974. A native of Rock Hill, Beaty is a graduate of Presbyterian College and a member of the Rock Hill Sports Commission and York County Free Clinic Advisory Council.• The S.C. Bar Young Lawyers Division has named 22 Stars of the Quarter Award recipients and 11 President Award recipients. The awards recognize members who exemplify dedication to public service and YLD initiatives. Among those honored as a quarterly and president’s award was Chisa Putman of Rock Hill.
