Allison Creek Bluegrass returns
YORK Allison Creek Bluegrass returns to the stage on Thursday, Aug. 7, with free bluegrass music from a leading local band.
Allison Creek Bluegrass is at the Allison Creek Church, on the corner of Allison Creek Road and S.C. 274 between Lake Wylie and Newport.
The doors open at 6 p.m., with concessions available beginning at 6:30 p.m. Music is from 7 to 9 p.m. This is a family-friendly event, and all are welcome.

YORK COUNTY Carolina Community Actions Head Start is accepting application for children ages 3-4 in York and Chester counties for the 2014-15 school year.

Choral group auditions Aug. 27-28
ROCK HILL York County Choral Society and Chamber Singers, directed by Dr. Katherine Kinsey, will hold auditions from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 21 and 6 to 7 p.m. Aug. 28 in the choir room at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1320 India Hook Road.
The YCCS welcomes experienced singers from high school through adults.

Lions Club has fish to fry
LAKE WYLIE The River Hills Lions Club’s second annual fish fry is scheduled 2-7 p.m. Sept. 14 at Camp Thunderbird.
The menu is filet of flounder, chicken strips, hush puppies, french fries, slaw and ice tea from Catfish Cove.
Tickets for eat-in or takeout cost $10 and are available in advance or at the door. Proceeds go to Lions charities.

The Lions also are seeking live and silent auction items for the River Hills Lions Club Benefit Dinner, which will be Oct. 4 at River Hills Country Club. Proceeds go to River Hills/Lake Wylie EMS.
Types of items needed include framed artwork, gift certificates, professional and college sports tickets, restaurant dinner packages, weekend getaways, jewelry and automobiles.

POP Club welcomes members
YORK The Heart2Heart Foundation, a local nonprofit focused on raising awareness about heart disease, has joined Market at Inman Farms in York to launch the Power of Produce Club.
The club is open to the public and will give children $2 in tickets to spend on fresh fruits and vegetables and food plants and seeds. POP Club will be available from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays through Oct. 11 at The Market at Inman Farms, 1101 Black Highway.
The POP Club is a nationally-recognized children’s program started at the Oregon City Farmers Market in May 2011 to empower children to make healthy food choices and introduce them to where their food originates.
