York Parks and Rec fall registration deadline nearing
YORK The deadline for participation in the York Parks and Recreation Department’s fall youth activities is Aug. 22.
The cost is $35 for youth football and $30 for flag football.
Priscilla Cook, program assistant for York Parks and Rec, said late registration will be Aug. 23 and 25.
“Once the registration process is concluded, we will get everything organized, including the scheduling of fall events,” said Cook. “The games will begin in mid-September.”
York recreation director Carolyn Leake said fall is an active sports season. “Youth football, cheerleading and flag football are popular events,” she said. “We expect a good turnout this season.”
Registration is at the York Recreation Center on White Rose Lane, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday.
Youth football is divided into two age groups: ages 7 to 9 and 10 to 12. A child’s league age is determined by the child’s age as of July 31, 2014.
League age 10-year-olds are required to play with the 10 to 12 age group, regardless of their weight. League age 7-year-olds have the option of playing flag football or youth football without weight restrictions, which must be decided at the time of registration.
Cheerleaders will be placed on squads based on the number of youth football teams. Because there are not enough cheerleaders to divide the cheerleading squads into the same age groups as the football team, cheerleaders may cheer for a team that is in a different age group than the cheerleader’s age.
