The Clover Jaycees will host a community celebration Saturday with its annual car show and fall festival.
The event will begin with an 8 a.m. 5K Run for Hope and wind up with a Saturday evening parking lot party with music by FlashBack.
Annette Adams Howell, a Jaycees member and organizer of the event, said it’s presented in memory of her late brother, Dwayne Adams, who was killed in a 1993 motorcycle accident. Dwayne Adams was a driving force in the Clover Jaycees at the time.
Howell said the car show and festival, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, generate thousands of dollars to support Jaycees charities, including a Santa’s Sleigh Christmas project for needy children and dinners for seniors.
Never miss a local story.
The festival began as a car show and evolved to include a fall celebration. The car show includes 54 classes and usually attracts 100 to 150 cars, she said.
The cars will be judged by a panel of car enthusiasts, she said. The cars include pre-1935 cars, Mustangs, Corvettes, special interest vehicles and many others.
Highlights of the festival include inflatable games for children, arts and crafts, food, face painting and music.
“It’s a family event,” Howell said. “We want people to come out and kick off the fall season. It’s just a wonderful time of year.”
She said the Clover Jaycees, which has presented the event for more than 30 years, has been growing.
“We are thriving,” Howell said. “We were No. 1 in the state last quarter in terms of everything we did as a chapter, community oriented, membership oriented.”
Howell said the group has 40 to 50 members. “We’ve had a lot of new members coming in, and they’re younger members so they have fresh ideas.”
She said the event will end with the party from 6:30 to 10 p.m. in the Bi-Lo parking lot.
“People can bring their lawn chairs or blankets or whatever and come out for a relaxing evening of fun and entertainment, and it’s free,” she said.
She said major sponsors, in addition to the Jaycees, are Bi-Lo, Family Trust Federal Credit Union, The Pizza Man and the town of Clover.
