Lions serving pancake breakfast Dec. 13
LAKE WYLIE The River Hills Lions Club will host a pancake breakfast with special guest Father Christmas 8:30-11 a.m. Dec. 13 at Camp Thunderbird dining hall.
Father Christmas will pose for pictures with the children. In addition, there will be a bounce house, cookie decorating, face painting, free eye exams and balloon twisting by magician Adrian Gagnon. The York County Sheriff’s Department, Bethel Volunteer Fire Department and Highway Patrol with its Rollover Simulator will be there, too.
Admission is $10 for children, $5 for adults. Tickets will be available at the door and in advance at Bagel Boat. Proceeds go to Lions charities.
Register for gardening symposium
YORK COUNTY Early registration is open for the 10th annual Joy of Gardening Symposium Feb. 28 at Baxter Hood Center, Rock Hill.
Registration, which includes lunch, is $50. After Dec. 31, the cost will be $60. Sponsored by the Master Gardeners of York County, the event includes seven gardening experts, break-out sessions, vendors and a chance to win door prizes.

Flu shots for children available
YORK COUNTY Free flu shots for children are available at the Early Learning Partnership’s free children’s clinic.
Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Fridays in the Rock Hill Family Resource Center, 410 E. Black St. Children birth to age 18 who do not have health insurance can see a doctor or nurse practitioner. Services include sick visits, immunizations, and sports and school physicals.

Other clinics are held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in York, Fort Mill and Clover. York County children may attend any of the four clinics.
Tax program needs volunteers
YORK COUNTY Volunteers are needed to help low income, elderly and handicapped taxpayers prepare income tax returns as part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.
Volunteers will be trained by the Internal Revenue Service, S.C. Department of Revenue and N.C. Department of Revenue to prepare basic tax returns.
The training is free to volunteers who will learn to prepare 1040A, 1040EZ and the basic 1040 forms with schedule A and B.
Training will include the filing of tax return on computers. Training will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 12-16 at Rock Hill City Hall, 155 Johnston St., in the Wellness Center on the first floor. For information, call Bill Perry at 803-322-4195.
YMCA plans ski trip for next year
YORK COUNTY The Upper Palmetto YMCA annual family ski trip to Aspen/Snowmass, Colo., will be Jan. 14-19.
The group will stay at the Timberline Condominiums in Snowmass. The package includes a range of rooming options for five nights; transfers to and from the airport, and from the airport to Timberline; luggage service; four-day lift ticket to Snowmass, Aspen, Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk ski areas; shuttle service from Snowmass to Aspen; and a welcome reception and slope-side picnic.
