York baseball beats Lancaster
YORK -- The York Cougar baseball team defeated Lancaster 7-6 last week, improving its record to 5-4 for the season.
Outfielder Josh Greene continued his solid hitting pace for the Cougars, going 2-for-3 at the plate, including a double.

"The kids continue to work hard," head coach Scott Kiggans said of the season to date. "I am pleased with the effort as they strive for improvement in all phases of the game."
Blue Eagles fall
CLOVER -- The Clover Blue Eagle baseball team fell to Nation Ford in a closely fought 6-4 game on the CHS diamond.
The game was knotted at 2-all until Nation Ford pushed across four runs in the top of the seventh inning.
The Blue Eagles fought back with two runs in the bottom of the seventh but came up short.
Chaztin Venezia, who who was batting .414 for the season entering this week's play, had three hits in four at-bats for Clover. Kris Thompson, a .324 hitter with three home runs, doubled. Hayden Hendry is batting .333.
"We're getting good pitching and not playing bad defense," head coach Darrell VanDyke said of the team's midseason play. "We're executing a little better and still need to hit the ball with runners on base.
"We have players that can hit, they're just not hitting now."
With one win and three saves on the mound, Venezia has yet to give up an earned run. Nor has Justin Parham in four appearances.
CHS hurler Evan Jackson is 2-1 with a 2.82 ERA and 24 strikeouts.
VanDyke said the game with Rock Hill scheduled to be played last Wednesday has been rescheduled for April 14, at home.
York softball team loses nail-biter to Northwestern
YORK -- The Lady Trojans of Northwestern scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning, breaking a 6-6 tie and escaping with a 7-6 win.
Brandi Neely, Laura Caruso and Ashanti Wilson each doubled for the Lady Cougars, and Caruso had two RBIs.
"We hit the ball better against Northwestern," head coach Nickie Templeton said.
In assessing the season to date, Templeton said the Lady Cougars are a young team experiencing growing pains.
"They are starting to hit the ball," she said. "They are learning the little things that can make the difference in winning and losing.
"The kids are learning that it is a seven-inning game and they can overcome mistakes and still win."
Templeton said the YCHS girls need to score more runs to take some of the pressure off ace hurler Tori Bailey and a steady support cast.
"Our kids are working hard," assured Templeton. "They want to win and can't seem to get over the hump."
CHS boys soccer boots Gaffney
CLOVER -- The Clover High School boys soccer team defeated Gaffney 5-1 for win number six on the season.
Josh Varalli scored two goals, the first on assists from teammates David Robinson and Ian Brown and the second unassisted.
The other scoring included goals by Austin Schlirf, Patrick McCaul and Robinson, each unassisted.
Michael Hohler and Blair Haun had solid efforts sharing the goalkeeper position, limiting Gaffney to a single score.
Blue Eagles top Nation Ford
CLOVER -- The Clover High boys tennis team defeated Nation Ford 6-1.
Match results included: No. 1 singles - Chase Alyieri (C) def. Madison Ott, 6-1, 6-0; No. 2 - Nick Deahl (C) def. Danny Randar, 7-6, 6-4; No. 3 - Will Decker (C) def. Brandon McGlohon, 6-3, 6-3; No. 4 - Ken Long (C) def. Alex McLelland, 6-0, 6-1; No. 5 - Tyler Morris (NF) def. Tucker DeLoach, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 10-6.
Deahl and Decker defeated Ott and Randar 8-7 in a closely-fought No. 1 doubles match, while Clover's Josh Watts and Gator Sutton bested Michael Little and Paul Hoberek 6-3, 0-6, 10-7 in No. 2 doubles.
Clover girls soccer team wins
CLOVER -- The CHS girls soccer team defeated Nation Ford 2-0, dominating the action with 28 shots on goal to Nation Ford's three.
Rachel Newmister scored the first goal on an assist from Kelsey Hamilton. Jordan Allen scored on an assist from Diana Eaton.
Puckett leads unbeaten Lady Cougars
YORK -- YCHS standout Devin Puckett scored the lone goal on an assist from Samantha Schwartz as the Lady Cougar soccer team nudged Northwestern 1-0 to remain unbeaten (5-0) for the season.
A gritty defensive effort by the YCHS girls, and goalkeeper Gabby Garrison's cover skills held the Lady Trojans scoreless.
YCHS boys defeated
YORK -- The Northwestern boys soccer team defeated the YCHS Cougars 4-0. Goalkeeper Craig Lowe had six saves for York. The Cougars are 2-2 for the season.
Nation Ford tops CHS girls
CLOVER -- Nation Ford broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat the CHS girls softball team 5-2. Jojo Westmoreland was 2-for-2 at the plate for the Lady Blue Eagles.
Body Makeover Aerobics
YORK -- York Parks and Recreation Department will begin a new exercise and fitness program in April. Body Makeover Aerobics is a combination of flexibility, strength, balance, aerobic conditioning and lifestyle integration.The program is for men, women, and children with adult supervision.
Classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday, 6 - 7 p.m., at the York Recreation Center on White Rose Lane. Classes begin April 7. The cost is $30 per month.
Classes will be instructed by Lisa Bolin, licensed fitness specialist with the American Council on Exercise. She is York County's first professional female boxer.
