BELMONT -- Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden will honor the one-year anniversary of the opening of The Orchid Conservatory with a special monthlong celebration of orchids. Orchid Spectacular will run Jan. 9 through Feb. 15 at the garden, 6500 S. New Hope Road.
The garden's first orchid show and sale, conducted in partnership with the North Carolina Piedmont Orchid Society, will highlight the opening weekend of the event. The show will feature exhibits and displays by professional orchid growers as well as orchid societies. Visitors will have a chance to browse through the magnificent displays of orchids and tropical plants, as well as purchase plants and growing supplies. The show will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Jan. 9 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 10-11.
"An Evening of Orchids" will be the formal opening event from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Jan. 9. The occasion will once again feature a display of champion orchids from the American Orchid Society, as well as a rare orchid and tropical plant auction. Other highlights will include a wine bar and cigar lounge. Tickets may be purchased at two levels: $50 individuals, $75 patrons. The Patron level will include a membership to the North Carolina Piedmont Orchid Society and an orchid. To make reservations or for more information, call 704-829-1252.
Also, several orchid-themed continuing education classes will be offered throughout the month featuring topics such as producing award-winning orchids, building a tropical terrarium, and growing orchids in the home.
