The Catawba Catfish Club held its third tournament of the season Nov. 22 at Fishing Creek Reservoir in Great Falls.
Organizer Marty Green said they set a new lake record with 33 boats. There were 68 paying anglers and children fishing for a total prize of $1,360 and big fish pot of $330.
“Clear skies and a low of about 24 degrees greeted the anglers at the ramp,” Green said. “Water temp was about 50 degrees with little wind blowing.”
Green said, “We had a very competitive tourney at Fishing Creek as usual, the top five teams were separated by just over 10 pounds. Talk at the ramp was that fish were caught anywhere from 4 foot of water to 35 foot of water, the shallow bite seemed to be the best bite for numbers. Gizzard shad seemed to be the preferred bait.”
Never miss a local story.
It was Team DMD – Mike Rape, David Catoe and Tony Cauthen – who brought home the win with a three-fish stringer of 55.10 pounds.
The big fish of the tournament went to the 11th place team of Team Jamie K Outdoors – Jason and David Henderson and Gary Mortonwith – a 25.75 pounds of blue.
The series is sponsored by Boat Sales of Lake Wylie, Fish Bite Rod Holders, Hunt Fish Paddle, Jamie K Outdoors, Q2U BBQ Pit, Pepsi and Kangaroo Express.
The next tournament is 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Dec. 13 at Buster Boyd Access Area on Lake Wylie.
