Gold Hill JV wins
The Gold Hill Middle School girls JV soccer team defeated Indian Land 5-0 Wednesday. On the scoring plays, Bailey Rich assisted Taylor Chambers, Katie Gano assisted Megan Polito, Taylor Chamber assisted Bailey Rich, Cassidy Parker assisted Bailey Rich and Katie Gano had an unassisted goal.
Allyssa Resech and Alyssa Barre played very well in the midfield. Megan Stevens, Jenna Koster, Libby Dewey and Gabriella Hummel played well on defense.
Gabbie Dorneden had two great saves as keeper and Ashley Burgess was the muddiest player on the field of play, according to GHMS Athletic DirectorDenny Saverance.

The girls are 6-1-1 overall and 3-0 in region play.
GHMS varsity blanks Clover
Also Wednesday, the GHMS girls varsity worked a shutout over Clover Jr. High, 3-0. Taylor Chambers scored a goal and assisted Lizzie Jensen and Bailey Rich.
Megan Polito scored an unassisted goal.
Defensive leaders for the Lady Bulldogs were Megan Stevens, Jenna Koster and Libby Dewey. The win improved the team’s record to 5-1-1 and 2-0 in conference play.
Helms fans seven in win
The Fort MIll Middle School baseball team defeated the visiting Mustangs of Springfield 5-3 last week. Dalton Helms was the winning pitcher, holding the Mustangs at bay all night and going the distance with seven strikeouts.
Leading the offense was Spencer Pecarro, who went two for four at the plate, and Blake Hill, with a hit and a walk. The biggest clutch hitter, though, was Hunter Hice. He had three hits, including the game-winning double in the bottom of the sixth that brought home Hill and Pecarro.
The Jackets are 2-0.
Lady Jackets host 18 teams
The Fort Mill High School girls soccer program will host the third annual BB&T Fort Mill Invitational varsity girls soccer tournament at Manchester Meadows March 20-22. This is the largest field in the tournament's history, with 18 high schools from North Carolina, South
Carolina and Georgia participating. There will also be a feature match
between two middle school girls teams as Gold Hill Middle will play Springfield Middle on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
FMMS girls blank Lady Mustangs
Fort Mill Middle School's Lady Yellow Jackets defeated the Springfield Mustangs 2-0 in middle school girl soccer action last week. Allison Johnston and Olivia Tawse combined for the shutout in goal for the Lady Yellow Jackets (1-1). Not only did Tawse lead her team in goal, but scored the first goal of the game on a beautiful left-footed shot.
Also scoring for the Yellow Jackets was Bonnie Holleman, off of an assist from Nancy Holland. Taylor Yarborough, Katie Pearce, Julia Bass, Rachel Adams, Cassie Klein and Kincaid Mann helped preserve the shutout.
Both teams return to action Thursday, March 19, with Springfield at Clover and Fort Mill at Gold Hill.
Bulldogs bite Clover
The Gold Hill Middle school boys soccer team beat Clover 3-1 last Wednesday.
Hunter Strickland scored a great header following a cross from Calvin Blaschke. William Hughes scored two goals, in the 31st and the 47th minutes. Goalkeeper Michael Usina allowed only one goal in the first half while Calvin Chapman had a clean sheet for the day.
Strong midfield play from Mason Strohl, Michael Richards and Trevor "Pique" Pickitt helped to complete the win.
