JV Jackets take title
The Fort Mill High School girls JV soccer team team won the Irmo JV Girls Preseason Soccer Tournament championship.
The Lady Jackets didn't yield a goal in four matches as they blanked Blythewood 5-0, Irmo 4-0, White Knoll 3-0 and Barnwell 1-0. In the final against Barnwell, Fort Mill sophomore Kristen Headden scored the lone goal from the penalty spot.
Headden was also named the tournament's MVP.

Lady Bulldogs defeat FMMS, Clover
The Gold Hill MIddle School girls soccer team earned a 5-0 shutout over Fort Mill Middle March 19.
In the scoring plays, Gold Hill's Megan Polito assisted Taylor Chambers before Chambers returned the favor and assisted Polito; Bailey Rich also assisted Chambers and Jessica Bisner and Katie Gano both had unassisted goals.
Defensive players of the game where Libby Dewey, Julia Applegate, Jenna Koster, Gabriella Hummel and Bagley Knox.
Allyssa Resech and Alyssa Barre played well in the midfield. Goal keepers Alli Spake and Gabbie Dorneden registered their third shutout in region play.
The team has scored 16 goals and only given up one goal in region play.
Also last week, the GHMS girls varsity worked a shutout over Clover Jr. High, 3-0. Chambers scored a goal and assisted Lizzie Jensen and Rich. Polito scored an unassisted goal.
Defensive leaders for the Lady Bulldogs were Megan Stevens, Koster and Dewey.
Gold Hill JV wins
The Gold Hill Middle School girls JV soccer team defeated Indian Land 5-0 Wednesday. On the scoring plays, Bailey Rich assisted Taylor Chambers, Katie Gano assisted Megan Polito, Taylor Chamber assisted Bailey Rich, Cassidy Parker assisted Bailey Rich and Katie Gano had an unassisted goal.
Allyssa Resech and Alyssa Barre played very well in the midfield. Megan Stevens, Jenna Koster, Libby Dewey and Gabriella Hummel played well on defense. Gabbie Dorneden had two great saves as keeper and Ashley Burgess was the muddiest player on the field of play, according to GHMS Athletic Director Denny Saverance.
The win pushed the team's record to 6-1-1 overall and 3-0 in region play.
Girls win in lacrosse
The Fort Mill Middle School girls JV lacrosse team defeated Mint Hill Middle School 8-1 at home Saturday, March 21.
Claire Frase and Erin Garrity led the scoring effort with two goals each; Martha Scott Alford, Madison McGovern and Polly Jasper scored one goal each and Frase, Jasper, Siera Johnson, Victoria Richardson and Kirsten Terry all had assists.
Ball control was dominated by Alford, Alex Rodrique, Johnson, Frase and Caroline Lewis. Goalie Rosalie Hawkins made one save. The JV girls play at Charlotte Country Day Thursday, March 26.
