The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
In one of the shortest parables in the Bible, Jesus gives us two extraordinary principles. Once you find spiritual treasure every part of your life is changed and secondly it's almost always hidden in unexpected places.
Spiritual treasure never just improves you, it never just gets you over the hump. It goes far beyond a bunch of rules, or taking a set of moral beliefs and imposing them on your will, or bending your will to fit those morals. The treasure that Jesus is talking about will not be something that will just improve you, it won't be one more self-help book on your shelf, "Dieting," "How to Win Friends and Influence People," "How to make Money" and along with those things...my Bible.
What Jesus is talking about in this short parable goes much deeper than morality or self-help, this Spiritual treasure completely remakes you.
In other words, for this man to get the treasure, everything he owns goes on the block.
He gives up everything to get this treasure
