The American Cornhole Organization is coming to Carowinds.
The organization will hold a major tournament at the theme park on Nov. 1 from 4 to 10 p.m. and Nov. 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. It is the second major tournament of the season.
American Cornhole’s South Carolina Major will feature game challenges, luck of the draw tournaments, and ACO members’ only world ranking points singles and doubles tournaments.
The luck of the draw tournaments and game challenges are pay as you go activities and are open to the public.
American Cornhole expects 300 people to attend the first-ever professional cornhole tournament in York County. Players from up to 15 states are expected to compete.
The Rock Hill/York County Convention and Visitors Bureau has secured the cornhole event for two consecutive years.
“We’re glad to bring the American Cornhole event to town as a new sports market to showcase the variety of facilities and attractions that we have here in York County and the flexibility of those venues,” says Auvis Cole, sports sales manager for the convention and visitors bureau.
Frank Geers, American Cornhole president, said Danny Blanks of Fort Mill and his partner Shane Andrews of North Carolina, who won the ACO World Doubles Championships Season VII, are expected to compete at Carowinds.
“The event will feature numerous World Class cornhole players,” Geers said. “If you’ve never seen professional cornhole, now is your chance. We think you’ll be surprised at how entertaining watching a few of these great matches can be.”
The American Cornhole, LLC was established in 2005 and has its headquarters in Milford, Ohio. It is the governing body for the sport of cornhole, offering official cornhole rules, certified products, tournament listings, comprehensive information about cornhole events, and programs to bring awareness of the sport to localized markets.
