If you live in Lancaster County, the 2014 Capital Project Sales Tax Commission wants your input on the next capital sales tax project. The Lancaster County Courthouse is almost paid off and the Sales Tax Commission wants to know what should be next.
The commission has held four meetings around the county, but if you did not attend you can send in your input by May 30.
In Indian Land, residents who attended the meetings voiced their opinions and the consensus is that we need better roads and better emergency communications. Our roads are horrible and our communications out of date. Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Department Chief Greg Nicholson and Indian Land Volunteer Fire Department Chief Joe Pezzuti expressed concerns that we are using outdated VHF equipment.
Motorola plans to discontinue technical and parts support for the equipment in 2016. Nicholson said Pleasant Valley Fire Department personnel routinely has problems getting in touch with one another in emergencies north of Highway 160 and that’s where nearly 50 percent of their coverage area is located. Pezzuti said in a recent incident, EMS responded to a fatal wreck on Doby’s Bridge Road to provide mutual aid for York County. He said critical scene and patient information had to be transmitted back to Station 10 via radio through another local firefighter in between the two locations.
Since we do have a new Court House almost paid for, I think this is the time to spread this money to all of Lancaster Counties this will benefit everyone.
