Knape wins scholarship
Kamryn Knape, a home-schooled student in Fort Mill, has been named the recipient of the 2014 Long Family Scholarship.
The scholarship is awarded to a York County art student attending The Governor’s School of the Arts and Humanities, and it is sponsored by the Arts Council of York County and the Rock Hill Woman’s Club. Knape recently was recognized at the Annual Arts Council Celebration.
Duggan on Dean’s List
Bridget Lindsay Duggan of Fort Mill made the Dean’s List at Iowa State University, where she majors in communication studies.
To make the list, students have to earn a grade-point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.0 scale while carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours of graded coursework.
Host families needed
Visiting students, ages 15-18, from around the world including Germany, Spain, Switzerland and Thailand are seeking host families in and around Fort Mill for the upcoming 2014-2015 academic school year.
Host families are needed for the fall semester and the full school year.
Host families – traditional families, singles, empty-nesters, etc. – serve as mentors and a home base for their student. Visiting students participate as active members of the family and integrate into their host’s daily routines and traditions just like any other family member. Hosting an international student is a great way to explore a new culture and promote a sense of lifelong learning and adventure.
“Every year, South Carolina plays host to hundreds of talented, top-of-their-class students with the lifelong dream of studying in America,” said Joseph Bissell, iE-USA’s regional director.
