Carolina Spine will sponsor the second annual dress code clothing drive for Indian Land and Harrisburg students July 21 through Sept. 15.
Many local students don’t have the opportunity to get new clothes for school, something Carolina Spine set out to change last year when it first sponsored the clothing drive, said Dana Nicholson, community outreach coordinator.
“We want to help raise their self-esteem,” she said. “If you dress nice, you feel good about yourself.”
Last year, residents donated bundles of new clothing for students, as well as more than $350 in gift cards to purchase other needed items, Nicholson said.
“It was very successful,” she said.
This year’s goal is to collect more to help students at Indian Land Middle School and at Indian Land and Harrisburg elementary schools, Nicholson said.
“We hope that each year, it will grow bigger and bigger,” she said. “The more people we can reach, the more children will be helped.”
Dress code items and monetary donations can be dropped off at Carolina Spine, 8451 Charlotte Highway in Indian Land.
Ryan Valencic at Carolina Spine is offering a free chiropractic consultation, exam and, if needed, X-rays to anyone who donates clothing items.
