I like to have fun. What about you?
The importance of having fun in life is underrated. It prevents life from becoming dull.
My wife Cherie’ is a flight attendant. I work with people in personal leadership effectiveness and help them work through obstacles that keep them from achieving success in their lives. For both of us, our work is demanding and emotionally draining. We decided recently to be intentional about including fun in our schedule. To that end we decided to see what fun things our area has to offer.
Here are a few things we discovered:
The Belk Theater blumenthalarts.org
Cherie’ and I got seasons tickets to attend the many wonderful theatrical productions held in the Belk Theater in Charlotte. We have begun looking forward to this date night. It’s a real treat as we both get dressed up and prepare for an exciting night on the town. We always find a great restaurant where we can enjoy some local cuisine before the show. We commit to being fully attentive to each other and celebrating the wonderful relationship we enjoy.
It goes without saying that the quality of the productions staged by the Blumenthal Performing Arts Company are first-class. We have never been disappointed and we highly recommend you check it out.
U.S. National Whitewater Center usnwc.org
A friend of ours told us about this amazing fun place. We decided to explore this remarkable facility.
If you can’t have fun here you’ll have a hard time having fun anywhere. The U.S. National Whitewater Center’s 500 acres offers outdoor activities for all ages and skill levels, like kayaking, paddle boarding, zip lines and more.
The outdoor setting is beautiful. Cherie` and I enjoyed a nature walk as we trekked to the place where we found our kayaks ready for an excursion. Cherie’ and I paddled around for a couple hours until we found an exclusive island where we are able to spend some time relaxing on the beach.
I would encourage anyone who plans to attend this fun adventure destination to arrive early, because if you are going to utilize many of the offerings, it is an all-day affair.
Charlotte Motor Speedway charlottemotorspeedway.com
One of our next adventures, will be to spend some time at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. My father-in-law recently introduced Cherie’ and I to dirt-track racing on our last visit to Florida. We are excited about checking out the racing events and the excitement at this famous speedway.
Discovery Place discoveryplace.org
This is great place to take the whole family. Experiential learning is something I have been interested in recently. This hands-on museum will be a great place to bring people for some fun learning experiences.
South Carolina Aquarium scaquarium.org
The South Carolina Aquarium looks like a fun place to spend time. Where else can you explore so many different forms of underwater sea-life in one place? After visiting the aquarium, take the family to a great seafood restaurant.
The Mint Museum mintmuseum.org
The Mint Museum is more than an art museum. It is also a community center dedicated to making art from around the world accessible to everyone. The two locations, Charlotte’s Eastover neighborhood and Uptown, offer splendid permanent and traveling art installations. If you are not in the habit of visiting art museums I recommend that you take the time to visit the Mint Museums and discover the fun and fascinating world of the visual arts.
Cherie’ and I hope that you enjoy venturing out on your own to experience this great community. Maybe we’ll bump into each other as we experience all the fun things there are to do here in the greater Charlotte and Fort Mill areas. We often meet new people during our excursions and have already forged new friendships.
