Former University of North Carolina linebacker and local business owner Ken Sheets plans to donate $5,000 for Fort Mill and Nation Ford’s athletic booster clubs.
Sheets, who owns the Smoothie King, said he wanted to give back to the community.
“With sports being such a major part of my life, I decided it was time I give back to the athletic community by raising money for both schools’ athletic booster clubs.”
Sheets was an All-American at UNC and his two daughters followed in his footsteps: Both also went on to become athletes in college after finishing All-State athletic careers at Fort Mill High School. The oldest, Elizabeth played volleyball at Fort Mill High (Class of 2005) before accepting a scholarship to Wofford College. Her sister Ashleigh was a soccer player for the Yellow Jackets and after graduation in 2008 was accepted to West Point.
Presenting both schools with 5,000 coupons, Ken Sheets plans to raise $2,500 by donating 50 cents for every coupon presented. More than 200 coupons have already been turned in.
The Smoothie King is on Hwy. 160 West, a few doors down from Towne Tavern, across the road from Baxter Village. For more information about helping local high school booster clubs, talk to Sheets at the shop or contact the schools, coaches, athletic directors and find the booster clubs on Facebook.
