Crossroads celebrating recognition
Crossroads Lutheran Church, 8511 Shelley Mullis Road, Indian Land, will celebrate its recent recognition as an organized congregation in the South Carolina Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America at 11 a.m. Aug. 17. A luncheon will follow.
Those assisting Pastor Rick Carter and Vicar Tim Crummitt with worship will be Pastor Jan Setzler, who will deliver the morning message, and the Rev. Bob Beaver, who will assist with the service and distribution of the sacraments.
Crossroads Lutheran organized as a mission congregation in 2005 under of the leadership of Mission Developers Jason and Mitzie Schafer, who accepted a call by a congregation in Prosperity in 2009. Setzler served as the interim pastor until Carter became the Mission Developer in 2011 serving as pastor for both Amazing Grace Lutheran Church in Waxhaw, N.C., and Crossroads Lutheran in Indian Land.
Plans are ready for a new 4,000-square-foot worship center and groundbreaking will occur in the near future.
Gospel concert at Grace
The fifth annual Gospel & Spirituals with Grace concert is 6 p.m. Aug. 17 at Grace Presbyterian Church, 2955 W. S.C. 160, Fort Mill.
This year’s theme is “Roll, Jordan, Roll: Hope and Courage to Overcome.” You will enjoy favorites such as “Soon and Very Soon,” “Great Gittin’ Up Mornin’” and “Just a Closer Walk with Thee” from the Grace Notes Choir, as well as selections from the Grace Quartet and Joyful Noise. Childcare will be available.
Moms invited for coffee, fellowship
First Baptist Fort Mill, 121 Monroe White St., invites women to drop their kids off at school and head over to the fellowship hall for fun, fellowship and prayer 8-10 a.m. Aug. 18. There will be a coffee bar, refreshments and prizes.
Higher Ground offers after-school program
The Higher Ground Church Child Development Center is now enrolling for the 2014-2015 Christ-centered after school program.
All kindergarten students along with first- through fifth-graders are welcome. The program is a spiritual alternative to traditional child care centers offering professional homework tutoring with an on-site tutor, daily chapel services, and low student to teacher ratios in separated classrooms.
Each day children will be offered healthy snacks, structured group play times and spiritual lessons. The program offers seasonal drama and music productions.
