Dr. Dennis L. McElhoe, a Fort Mill resident, has been named vice president for Economic and Workforce Development at Gaston College.
He is responsible for overseeing the office of Economic and Workforce Development, Continuing Education, Public Safety, Basic Skills, Corporate Education, the Small Business Center, Teacher Renewal/Childcare Workforce Development, and the BioNetwork Learning Solutions Center. He started his new position July 8.
“I’m excited to be at Gaston College which has an outstanding regional and national reputation for providing high quality workforce development and educational programming to the citizens, businesses and industries in Gaston and Lincoln counties,” Dr. McElhoe said.
Prior to joining Gaston College, McElhoe served as director of Credit Programs with the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, served in various capacities including Dean of Academic Affairs with the University of South Carolina, and associate director for Continuing and Distance Education with Purdue University.
He received a doctorate in Education with a Specialization in Community and Work Programs and a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from Purdue University, a Bachelor in Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University and an associate degree in Fire Science Technology from Indiana University.
