More than two dozen teams are expected to compete at the ninth annual Fiddle n’ Pig Shindig Sept. 19-20 at the Anne Springs Close Greenway Dairy Barn.
The event features some of the region’s best bluegrass bands and barbeque connoisseurs.
Fully sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society, the barbeque competition will feature all four KCBS categories this year including chicken, brisket, pork butt and pork ribs, as well as more than $12,000 in prize money. Trophies will be awarded for each category.
The barbecue and bluegrass festival will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, with barbecue and chicken wings available for purchase, in addition to a line up of regional bluegrass favorites including The Hinson Girls and Lonesome Road Band. Cook teams will begin their overnight vigil of preparing their barbecue delicacies, while additional food and drink vendors are also on hand. Friday’s admission is $5.
Never miss a local story.
On Saturday, barbecue tastings begin at 11 a.m. and visitors can cast their votes for the People’s Choice Award (pork butt category only.) Saturday’s bands include Deeper Shade of Blue, Appalachian Fire and Bobby and the Blue Ridge Tradition. Admission is $10 and $6 for children younger than 10.
