Real estate blog Movoto ranked the town of Fort Mill sixth on its top-10 list of South Carolina’s Safest Places.
To come up with the rankings, Movoto examined places with populations of 10,000 or more and then compared crime rates with data from the 2012 FBI Crime Report to create the ranking. It considered crimes ranging from theft to assault and murder. Muncipalities that didn’t report any crime data to the FBI were eliminated. In all, 31 communities were examined.
Mauldin was first and Charleston came in 10th.
“It is humbling to be named one of the safest places in South Carolina,” Mayor Danny Funderburk said in a release.
“Fort Mill continues to be recognized across the nation as an exceptional place to live, work and play. We hope to continue providing our citizens with the highest caliber of municipal service possible. If we remain successful, the recognitions will continue to follow.”
Earlier this year, SafeWise.com, an organization that compares security systems and providers, listed Tega Cay first in its “ 40 Safest Cities in South Carolina” rankings and had Fort Mill seventh. Like the Movoto formula, rankings came from compiled local and federal crime data.
Fort Mill was also recently named one of the fastest growing places in South Carolina.
