Same sex marriage not supported by the Bible
I was very disappointed with James Thompson’s views on same sex marriage (Sept. 24, Fort Mill Times). No, the people at his church do not heartily agree with his opinions.
I want to make it clear that the people from his church oppose his views and his views are do not speak for the majority of Catholics in the entire world. Pope Francis loves the sinner, but he has no tolerance for the sin. Clearly, Mr. Thompson does not look at his Bible much. Yes, Jesus did say that there were two important commandments: love God and love your neighbor. When Jesus said to love your neighbor, Jesus did not say “to have sex” with your neighbor.
I think the modern world confuses love with sex. Still, the most important commandment was to love God. I don’t remember seeing anything in the Bible even remotely suggesting that homosexuality is OK. It does not even suggest that homosexuality has a place in the family. Just look at the story of Sodom and Gomorrah in the book of Genesis. In the book of Leviticus, chapter 18 verse 22: “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.” In the same book, chapter 20, verse 13: “If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall be put to death.”
Shall I go on? In truth, it is pure arrogance to think that our modern society is more enlightened than societies more than 2,000 years ago. Just look around. We still have war and violence. We still poverty and slavery. People have not really changed, but we are meant to think we are better off because of the liberal media. Technology has only made the world go faster, not necessarily better.
Back in the 1980s, Time magazine published the results of a government-sponsored study by behavioral scientists that declared that homosexuality was genetic.
Unfortunately, these results were never replicated by others. Don’t be fooled by the media hype. Look at the facts more closely. Read your Bible. These are things that James and his friends do not want you to do. Why? Because if you check the facts and read your Bible, you are automatically a homophobic, sexist bigot.
Remember, political correctness is just that: it is political. It has nothing to do with the facts.
