You can outsmart mall stress by shopping locally.
In the past few years, Indian Land has had several retail businesses open; combined with the established ones, we actually can get all of our shopping done right in this area. Last year, shoppers nationwide spent $5.7 billion dollars with independent merchants on Small Business Saturday, according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
Another great thing about shopping locally is the parking situation: You don’t have to leave in the middle of the night to find a parking spot when you shop locally, and that’s a big plus for most of us.
Want to look for gifts off-the-beaten track? Andrew Jackson State Park has much to offer in its gift shop, with a lot of historical information for the area as well. They also sell gift cards that can be used for state park cabins, picnic shelters and meeting facilities. For hours of operation, call 803-734-0156.
Never miss a local story.
But before you think about spending all your money on gifts, please remember the homeless and the less fortunate. Helping someone in need is the best gift you can give.
