The venue for Thursday night’s Christmas concert has been moved from Life Pointe Church has been changed to Nation Ford High School.
The site for the concert, originally scheduled to feature the Nation Ford, Fort Mill Middle and Springfield Middle school bands, was changed due to lack of available parking, Fort Mill School District officials said Wednesday. The lineup has changed as well. The Nation Ford band will not perform at the show.
District spokeswoman Kelly McKinney said the venue changed because parking spaces thought to be available at the nearby former Knights Stadium are no longer available and the church parking lot can not accommodate the hundreds of cars expected. The Knights Stadium property and some surrounding land was sold to the Cato Corp. ahead of the Knights’ move to Charlotte earlier this year.
Cato is developing the site into a distribution center.
Never miss a local story.
“The parking spaces (at the stadium) are roped off because Cato is preparing the site for demolition,” McKinney said.
She said it’s a case of unfortunate timing and the district hopes no one directs any animosity toward Cato.
“Cato is a good friend of the Fort Mill School District,” she said.
No one at Cato was available late Wednesday.
The concert will begin at 8 p.m. in the Nation Ford High auditorium. The public is invited.
