A Nation Ford High School student was arrested and charged with being in possession of counterfeit money after another student was questioned after trying to make change for a phoney $20 bill, according to a Fort Mill Police Department report.
A Fort Mill detective came to the school to question the students Dec. 2 after school resource officer Robert Giglio was notified about the alleged attempt to change the bogus bill.
The student, 14, initially told police he found the money on the floor of the boys’ locker room at the school, the report states. He later changed his story and said he stole the fake $20 bill from another Nation Ford student, according to the report. The student turned over his wallet to the detective, who allegedly found nine bogus $20 bills inside. According to the report, the second student told the detective he got the money after selling two pairs of sneakers to someone he didn’t know via Craigslist, an online marketplace.
Police are still investigating.
