Bouncing back after a hard loss to Spartanburg, the Nation Ford Lady Falcons won two of three games in the girls’ bracket of the Clover Optimist tournament.
Nation Ford beat Ninety-Six in the opening round 55-23, before falling to Spartanburg 55-42 only to bounce back against Camden for a 50-42 win.
The Lady Falcons were led by Alixis Roccia against Camden, as she scored 28 points in the win.
First year Nation Ford head coach Tamara Washington was happy with how her team played.
“I am feeling excellent,” she said. “The team is coming together. They are executing the little things.”
Nation Ford played Camden close in the first quarter, but allowed Camden to outscore the Lady Falcons 18-7 in the second quarter.
The Lady Falcons came out of the locker room at the half down 27-16. It was Nation Ford’s turn to take the momentum and run with it as it outscored Camden 20-7 in the quarter to take a 36-34 lead after the third.
Nation Ford opened the second half on a 9-0 run to trim the lead as Roccia had 12 of her 28 in the third quarter.
The Lady Falcons kept the run going into the fourth quarter outscoring Camden 14-8 in the final period.
Sydney Adams added eight and Sam Tuipulotu added seven for the Lady Falcons in the win.
Against Spartanburg, Nation Ford struggled to stop a 9-1 run by the Lady Vikings to open the second quarter. Roccia again led the Lady Falcons with 14 points.
Spartanburg outscored Nation Ford 23-8 in the second quarter as the Lady Vikings’ trap led to several points off turnovers by the Lady Falcons.
Nation Ford had a much easier match-up with Ninety-Six in the 55-23 win. The Lady Falcons started the game 7-0 and never looked back.
Roccia led Nation Ford with 19 points despite fouling out in the fourth quarter. She scored 14 points in the first half as the Lady Falcons put together back-to-back quarters of 17 points in both the second and third periods.
Nation Ford opens the regular season this week with games against Lancaster and Marvin Ridge.
