Ruth Johnson, mother of Tony Award-nominated producer Charles Randolph-Wright and an English teacher and activist for equality for blacks in western York County S.C. for decades, died Thursday. She was 85.
York County Coroner Sabrina Gast said the death of 60-year-old Dana Franklin of Fort Mill, who was found Monday floating near the shore in Lake Wylie, is still under investigation. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at River Hills Community Church.
Residents are being asked to practice water conservation techniques after York County and 27 other counties across South Carolina have been placed under an incipient drought status. Rock Hill water customers are being asked to limit water use.
