By the time Anchor Shops Place opens its second phase this summer, developer R.L. West expects a line to get in the doors.
Barry Rigby, executive vice president for the development company, said Thursday the 10,000-square-foot expansion should be complete in August. Anytime Fitness will take up more than half that space when it moves from the initial phase on the same property at S.C. 49 and Evergreen Road.
Nothing is signed for the 4,000 remaining square feet or for the space left by Anytime’s move, but Rigby expects announcements within 45 days.
“I’m dealing with about eight tenants that may have that center entirely full here pretty soon,” he said.
Anchor Shops Place opened in 2008. It is home to the fitness center, Lake Wylie Dry Cleaners, Lily Nails & Spa, Mahalo Salon and Vitamins4Less. The developer also has highway frontage lots on either side of Waffle House.
Rigby previously said restaurants would be a priority for the expansion, but said Thursday potential tenant uses are “all across the board.”
Some of the interested tenants are existing Lake Wylie business looking to move.
“It’s a mixture of both,” Rigby said. “Some tenants would be jostling around a little bit and some would be new to the area.”
Tony Pennington, owner of Anytime Fitness, said his company is ready to make the move this summer. With the move, the gym will be larger by about 2,000 square feet.
“Everything’s really busy,” he said. “A lot of new people coming in. Lake Wylie is really growing.”
