Golfers take on senior tourneys
WEST END, N.C. Lake Wylie area golfers teed off in Carolinas Golf Association’s Senior Four-Ball tournaments recently.
At the Aug. 5 tournament at Springfield Golf Course in Fort Mill, Mike Shively and Lowell Lueking, both of Lake Wylie, scored 42-41 - 83 in the Tournament Flight B (6,170 yards). In Super Senior 65 and older Flight A (5,678 yards), Mike Emory and Jim Sears, both of Lake Wylie, hit 35-35 - 70; while Harold Fisher and Tom Bookmiller, both Lake Wylie, had 36-36 - 72. In Super Senior 70 and older (5,385 yards), Carlos Salas of Clover and Herb Towell of Lake Wylie finished 37-36 - 73.
At the Aug. 4 tournament at Ballantyne Country Club in Tournament Flight B (6,243 yards), Mike Shively and Lowell Lueking, both Lake Wylie, finished 35-41 - 76l; while Harry Goff of Lake Wylie and Doug Cullen of Charlotte ended with 38-38 - 76. In Super Senior 65 and older Flight A (5,728 yards), Mike Emory and Jim Sears, both of Lake Wylie, ended with 34-35 - 69; while Harold Fisher and Tom Bookmiller, both of Lake Wylie, made 36-35 - 71. At Super Senior 70 and older (5,505 yards) Carlos Salas of Clover and Herb Towell of Lake Wylie completed the day with 35-36 - 71.
Tournament format is 18 holes of four-ball stroke play, both gross and net. Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 55th birthday by the tournament date, is a member of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association, and has a current USGA Handicap Index at a CGA member club. The field is divided into divisions based on age and total team course handicap: Tournament Division-Flight A, Flight B; Super Senior 65 and older Division-Flight A, Flight B; Super Senior 70 and older Division.

LAKE WYLIE Lake Wylie Athletic Association is accepting registration for ages 3-14 for the fall soccer season.
Practices begin Aug. 20, with the first games Sept. 6. Playoffs are in early November.
Cost is $65, including uniform.
